Florida State Equestrian Teams

Iron Star Equestrian is the home of the FSU Dressage Team and Sarah Mills is the Head Coach of the Eventing Team at Florida State.

The Eventing Team at Florida State University is part of the USEA Collegiate Program and participates in the Collegiate Challenges. Collegiate Eventing is brand new to the USA and we are very excited to be a part of it. Established in the Spring of 2015, The Eventing Team at FSU began with one rider and one coach. We are currently actively recruiting for new members to represent the Seminoles at the Collegiate Challenge Horse Shows. Not only does The Eventing Team at FSU compete at the USEA Collegiate Challenge shows, they also compete at local and regional shows to prepare for the USEA shows. We are our own club within the Club Sports department of Florida State.

We travel to USEA Events around Region 3 with our own horses. We attend Collegiate Challenges as well as regular Events with USEA.

Eventing is an International Sport as well as an Olympic Sport. The collegiate level is prime recruiting grounds for future Olympic Teams, World Equestrian Games Teams as well as PanAmerican Game teams. There are many many opportunities given to riders at this level and the Collegiate Program is a great way to get these college riders the exposure they need to excel in the sport.

The Florida State Dressage team is a member of the Intercollegiate Dressage Association. We are members of Region J which encompasses all of Florida and some of the southeastern states. We are always looking for new members to compete in the sport of Dressage. Members do not need to own their own horses, just their own show gear.

We attend shows hosted by a school and horses are drawn from a hat. The riders are given a 10 minute warm up and then ride their test. Riders are placed in divisions according to their skill level. Riders tests will be placed within their division and points will be tallied for teams and the highest scoring team will receive Champion honors. Divisions are Intro (Walk Trot), Lower Training (Walk Trot Canter), Upper Training (Advanced Walk Trot Canter) and First Level.

Dressage is an Olympic sport that is ancient as well as world wide. We practice classical dressage methods as well as good sportsmanship and horsemanship. Collegiate Dressage is a prime method to learn to ride while in college, especially if you don't own your own horse!
